Condado Tacos Pittsburgh Mural
For those familiar with Condado Tacos restaurants, it's no surprise to see every wall covered from floor to ceiling with fun, painted murals. Each new location hires a group of local and core artists to fill the space with colorful artwork based around a general theme using the restaurant's quirky characters. I was tasked with painting four walls—one main flat wall and three pillars positioned between the large window areas.
The theme for Condado Tacos restaurant No. 38 opening in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood was the psychedelic 60s, with my sub-theme fittingly representing biker culture. The main wall mixed together Condado's taco-obsessed Peezler character riding a panhead chopper, their Moon Man character taking a big rip from a bong, a ghost pepper in space, the molecular configuration for psilocybin as a constellation, and an eye that symbolizes the full spectrum of loving awareness. The other three walls were an extension of the background pattern, mixing in their gnome character, lots of mushrooms, and the molecular configurations of our two other favorite tryptamines, DMT and LSD.
The location opens in early November 2022. Be sure to swing by and check out the amazing work from the talented artist team of Scott Brozovich, Jewels Despines, Max "Gems" Gonzalez, Juliandra Jones, Lindsay Pilko, Cam Schmidt, Lizzee Solomon, Matt Spahr, and Grace Spahr.
